High Caffeine Coffee - What is it?
A typical high caffeine coffee contains Robusta coffee. Robusta is a variety of coffee which is grown primarily in Vietnam, Brazil, Indonesia, India and Uganda, It is typically grown at lower altitudes than Arabica coffee, which is the coffee used for most coffee you find in stores, coffee houses and craft roasters. Robusta has roughly two times the caffeine of Arabica coffee. Robusta also produces a nice "crema", that golden brown frothly top of a good espresso. Many Espresso blends contain Robusta to increase caffeine levels. It is important that a coffee roaster crafts a Robusta blend to allow for the best of Robusta qualities to shine while minimizing or eliminating the bitterness associated with Robusta. At Bob's Roasted Coffee, we crafted two blends that showcase a balance between Arabica and Robusta coffee. Both can be brewd by your favorite method including espresso and cold brew.
